since no-one seems to read the over-night stuff.
The Kijiji listing is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I've liked these things for a while, and this is even the AWD version.
My question is, since this thing is going for $350 (Yes, you read that right!), what should I be looking out for? If I use my Google-Fu on car makes, I generally get scary results which do not necessarily reflect actual owner issues, only the type that post to Ask Yahoo/Jeeves.
There's a guy selling a manual-equipped Isuzu P'up for 350, but I'm not sure I want to drive 1.5 hours each way to see whether a POS pickup is worth the money (keep in mind, I don't have a shop to do project stuff in).
For those remembering me posting about the 1977 Hearse earlier in the week, some other bastard got it, not this bastard.

Are you looking for a LeMons car or reliable family transport?

Transport - I don't have the tools or shop to rock a LeMons, as much as I'd like to.

For $350 that car is probably dead or dying. If you don't have the tools to work on a car be prepared to spend some cash to keep it running. Anything and everything is suspect at that price with over 400,000 miles.

True dat - I just don't have the cash to buy something more decent, yet my van has been making very expensive noises, and they're just getting worse. It's driveable in the sense that it can get me from A to B, but the right front tire/bearing gets wobbly @80Km/H and the valve rattling is not only annoying, but it's also affecting mileage and driveability.
I've had a string of Kijiji specials, and odd as it might sound, the Voyager's been the best of the bunch, Price:repair$ ratio wise. The engine R&R alone will be well north of $2300, plus I need tires and it's unlikely they'd let me leave the shop without replacing all four struts.
I only paid $1400 for her, and I've already sunk $1200 into repairs. I'm done.

I get that. I just hope you don't wind up in the same boat you're in, needing thousands in repairs all over again. Paying a little more up front can save you money in the long run, if you can. However, old Toyotas were built to last and minivans are up to the abuse.
Take it to a mechanic to get it inspected before you buy. That is your best bet.

Hell yeah it would see a tech! I'd get the P'up if I had projects space but i gotta go with the least likely to be trouble, and the Previa wins

I'd say the biggest worry with it is rust. The mechanicals are fairly simple. One of the main issues they had was the valve cover gasket leaking all over the exhaust. Fairly simple fix. But if it's too rusty just walk away. Rust is where the big costs are.

You can see a worrying amount of rust even in those low quality pictures, so I'd that's the biggest risk

Check the trunk latch. Those things always break and are, surprisingly, a giant pain in the ass to fix.
I actively tried to destroy my '92 Previa when it was about 13 years old. No dice. I'm sure it's still up and running somewhere...

Heh, at this point, functionality trumps cosmetics!

Well, having the frame rusted through doesn't really boost its functionality.

Gah, didn't even think of that.
